Field Notes: The Sulawesi Cave Survey

Every JAVA product ships only after an expedition cycle: real divers, real overhead, real consequences. In March the destination was the karst systems of South Sulawesi, with a survey team of six.

Forty-one dives produced 2.8 kilometres of newly lined and surveyed passage — and 340 hours of cumulative load data from the instrumented harnesses the team wore.

Two findings came home with us. A dump-valve toggle that could be snagged in ceiling line at one specific angle: redesigned, now 4 mm lower in profile. And confirmation that the STRATA spine panel dissipates point loads from cylinder impacts exactly as the FE model predicted.

The cave does not care about our marketing. That is precisely why we go.
